Koscielny Backs Claims Of Needed Centre Forward

Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny has stated that it is quite clear that the club need to bring in the striker to take some pressure off Olivier Giroud. Despite being in the title race for most of the season, Arsenal’s campaign took a turn for the worst in the months of March. This has seen as a result of the tiresome season for Giroud, who started in most of the matches last season. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has publicly stated that the club are looking to sign a centre forward in order to assist Giroud.

Defender Koscielny has backed those statements by saying that it is definitely the need of the hour. Arsenal have been linked with a couple of top names like Mario Balotelli. There are also reportedly looking at Real Madrid youngster Moratta as well. Recently, their former midfielder Cesc Fabregas became available for £ 30 million, but it is understood that Arsenal will not be taking up the option to bring him back to the Emirates stadium since they are concentrating on signing a striker at the moment.

Arsenal came close to getting Gonzalo Higuain from Madrid last year but lost out to Napoli, who paid £33 million for the striker. Koscielny reckons that a player who can get 30 goals per season will help Arsenal lift the league title.

“We need to recruit a very, very good striker, because it’s important for us, for competition for places, because Olivier needs that to become even better. Having a striker who scores more than 30 goals a season can help us win the Premier League. Compared to the squads like Manchester City, even [Manchester] United or Chelsea, you can see there’s a certain difference. We’ll need a goalkeeper, a right back, a midfielder and a striker. It’s important to have a minimum of these four players,” said Koscielny.
