The Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has said that his players should be primarily avoid complacency when they take on the French club Montpelier, who have already been eliminated from the Champions League. Arsene Wenger knows that his side will be able to qualify for the last 16 stage of the Champions League with victory over Montpelier along with a win for Schalke. However, it is extremely easy to be complacent in the European competition group stages according to the Arsenal manager. He has said that Montpelier had a slow start to the season, but they are now much better than they were in the initial months of the campaign.
The French side lost the opening game of the group stages 2-1 to Arsenal back in September. Since then, they have not been able to recover in the European competition. There are currently bottom of the group and have been eliminated from the competition. They are also not performing well in the domestic competitions as well. The club won the title last season with the current Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud in the ranks. Arsenal come into this match on the back of a very heart warming 5-2 win over archrivals Tottenham at the Emirates stadium during the weekend.
“Not for a second would I think the team will be complacent – they will be full of desire. Montpellier had a slow start, but they have rediscovered their balance over the last few months. It is important on the back of the Tottenham game we show another good performance and a resolute attitude, that is at stake for me. After, if we produce the quality performance, we will win the game,” said Wenger. After a run of poor results in all competitions, the win over Tottenham finally helped some confidence to flow within the team.
